IHH (İnsan Hak ve Hürriyetleri ve İnsani Yardım Vakfı), also known as the Foundation for Human Rights and Humanitarian Relief, was founded in 1995 to provide support to the forces of Alija Izetbegovic in the Bosnian civil war. [1]

In 1996, Israel shut down a regional office of the IHH led by Suleiman Gibarieh for paying bounties to the families of dead terrorists. [2] In 1998, IHH was temporarily shut down after Turkish police found bombs in its office. [1] [3] Turkish investigations of IHH ended after the 2002 election of the Muslim Brotherhood front Justice and Development Party (AKP). In 2008, Israel banned the IHH as one of 26 alleged Muslim Brotherhood financial front groups in the "Union of Good" led by Yusuf Qaradawi. [4] The Netherlands outlawed the local branch of the IHH in 2011. [5]

Jean-Louis Brugiere described the IHH as "a type of cover-up in order to obtain forged documents and also to obtain different forms of infiltration for Mujahideen in combat. And also to go and gather these Mujahideen. And finally, one of the last responsibilities that they had was also to be involved with weapons trafficing." Brugiere also alleged that the Millennium bomb plotters had made several phone calls to the IHH office in Istanbul. Mehmet Kose was the director of IHH in 2000-2002. [2]

2003 Iraq war Edit

From 2003-2005, the IHH provided "humanitarian aid" to Sunni regions of Iraq with a strong al-Qaeda presence. IHH operated in concert with the Zakat Foundation of America of Halil Demir, a former employee of the recently outlawed Benevolence International Foundation, with "aid" convoys carrying the logos of both operations. [3]

2010 Gaza mission Edit

In 2010, the IHH ship Mavi Marmara attempted to deliver recruits and body armor to the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza.[6] The mission was funded in part by approximately $366,000 from the Perdana Global Peace Foundation of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.[7]

Propaganda Edit

Qatari queen Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned paid US public relations company Fenton Communications $240,000 to promote the Gaza campaign.[8] In January 2013, Fenton Communications founder David Fenton would coordinate with American Conservative editor Scott McConnell, Atlantic writer James Fallows, Robert Naiman, and Chas Freeman to run a smear campaign against opponents of the nomination of Chuck Hagel for U.S. Secretary of Defense.[9]

Connection to the Third World Relief Agency Edit

Al-Fatih Ali Hassanein and his brother Sukarno Hassanein founded the Third World Relief Agency in 1987. In the 1990s the TWRA would become a money launderer and the principal route for arms to Alija Izetbegovic's Bosniak forces. The weapons primarily came from Iran. During that time, Ali Hassanein was employed by Bosnia's intelligence agency, the Agency for Information and Documentation, and was in contact with Hassan al-Turabi, Obama bin Laden, and Omar Abdel-Rahman. By 1994 the TWRA had spent $300 million on arms and propaganda. Ali Hassanein moved to Istanbul in 1994 and would become the Bosnian intermediary of IHH. [1]

Others on the TRWA board of directors included:

  • Hassan Cegnic, Mufti of Zagreb
  • Irfa Ljevakovic, co-founder of the Muslim Brotherhood front Party of Democratic Action
  • Huso Zivalj, Izetbegovic's ambassador to Austria
